The Great Chili Round-up returns to the Valley
Elaine Griffin is promoting Alzheimer’s awareness in Dufferin County.
One of her goals is to reach as many people as possible in our rural areas. Our society currently sees 1,250 people throughout the county who are living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia (mental deterioration). It is a progressive and degenerative disease, which means it gets worse over time. There are more than 600,000 people who have this disease in Canada. On April 8, Elaine Griffin, along with the Telecheck and Osteoporosis organizations, is launching an interactive workshop in the Grand Valley area.
These workshops will provide education on these diseases and provide a daily phone call to promote seniors remaining in their own home. Meanwhile, if you are concerned about someone whom you think might have this disease, you can call Elaine Griffin at 519-941-1221.
The Great Chili Round-up, sponsored by The Friends of the Grand Valley Library, is set to take place on Friday, Feb. 26. Several local groups and individuals are vying for the top prize of $50.
You can have a tasty bowl of chili along with a bun, a drink and dessert for only $5. I prefer a very mild type of chili, but if you are interested you can have a bowl of chili that will blow your socks off.
This event takes place at the Grand Valley Community Centre. Testing is 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Eat times are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
